Learning Disability Week 2025

Learning Disability Week 2025 invites us to reflect on visibility and inclusion for people with learning disabilities. This post explores the week's theme, how educators and employers are getting involved, and provides practical resources — including a free toolkit to support inclusive hiring practices.

Learning Disability Week 2025: “Do You See Me?”

From June 16 to June 22, 2025, Australia will join the global community to recognise Learning Disability Week. This week will raise awareness, promote understanding, and advocate for the rights and inclusion of individuals with learning disabilities.

Whilst the event originates from the UK, Australian educators, disability advocates, and community organisations actively participate by hosting events, sharing resources, and promoting awareness locally. Often, schools in Australia incorporate Learning Disability Week into their diversity and inclusion calendars to educate students and highlight the importance of inclusive environments.

Why Learning Disability Week Matters

Learning Disability Week highlights the experiences, talents, and voices of people with learning disabilities. It is also an opportunity to challenge the misconceptions and stigma that persist in society.

In 2025, the  “Do you see me?” theme invites us to reflect on visibility, recognition, and respect. It’s a call to action to ensure that people with learning disabilities are acknowledged and truly seen, heard, and valued in every aspect of life—from education and employment to healthcare and community participation.

Learning Disability Week Activities in Australia

Across Australia, schools, early learning centres, disability organisations, and community groups are marking Learning Disability Week by hosting events, launching awareness campaigns, and sharing educational resources. These initiatives aim to:

  • Educate the public about what learning disabilities are—and what they are not.
  • Celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with learning disabilities.
  • Challenge stereotypes and promote inclusive practices in schools, workplaces, and communities.
  • Empower individuals with learning disabilities to share their stories and advocate for their rights.

Whether you’re a teacher, employer, healthcare provider, family member, or ally, there are countless ways to get involved. Attend a local event, share stories on social media, or take time to listen and learn.

How to Support Learning Disability Inclusion

Here are four meaningful ways to get involved during Learning Disability Week and beyond:

  • Listen actively to people with lived experience.
  • Educate yourself and others about learning disabilities.
  • Support inclusive policies in your workplace or community.
  • Speak up when you see discrimination or exclusion.
